Hebrews 9:18–22
18 "Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. 19 For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” 21 And in the same way he sprinkled both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood. 22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness."

We said that the full benefits of a will cannot be delivered until the one who made it dies.  The writer points out here that this was the case even with the first covenant.  The first covenant offered forgiveness (it never fulfilled the promise, but that was the offer).  And to ratify that promise Moses sprinkled everything, including the people with blood.  A death had to occur, and until it occurred there could be no inheritance of forgiveness.  That is the point.  And we again see why Christ had to die.  He surrendered His life so that you could have the inheritance of forgiveness and eternal life.  Pray that our entire church begins to grasp the enormous magnitude of His death.
