Hebrews 3:7–11
7 "Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me, As in the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 Where your fathers tried Me by testing Me, And saw My works for forty years. 10 “Therefore I was angry with this generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they did not know My ways’; 11 As I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’”

The writer is quoting here from Psalms 95:7-11.  It was David's reminder that those who defected from trusting God never entered rest.  But the writer does not read this Psalm as a history lesson, he reads it through the lens of God's word being active and living.  He notes that the Holy Spirit is speaking to us "Today".  WE are in the wilderness.  WE are being called to trust God and cling to Christ.  WE are told not to grumble.  WE are commanded not to return to Egypt.  WE are expected to follow Christ all the way to the end and seize God's rest.  Commit to Christ today!
