So much is written today about church growth. What is commonly overlooked is that God wrote the first book on church growth and it is remarkable. Is it an over simplification to say that Acts is simply the record of how God grew His church? Of course not! In fact God chronicles the church’s growth throughout the pages. What started with 120 people in Acts 1:15 turns into 3,00 in Acts 2:41. By Acts 4:4 the number is 5,000. Then you read Acts 5:14, 6:7, 11:21, 14:1, 16:5, and 17:4, which are all verses that speak again of God adding more people to the church. This book is clearly the record of how God did that. And even that isn’t complicated. God took ordinary men, filled them with His Spirit, entrusted them with His gospel and sent them throughout the world. They crossed rigid cultural lines, confronted numerous pagan religions, faced multiple foreign languages, and yet God never concerned Himself with whether or not the church was culturally relevant. The church was eternally relevant and that is all that mattered. Come study this wonderful account and have your faith strengthened to be a part of what God is still doing to grow His church!
